03.09.20
Monday, March 9, 2020 is our 23rd birthday! Instead of White Claws and birthday tiaras, we’re celebrating with six magical brews on draft from one of our favorite breweries, the Northeast Kingdom’s Hill Farmstead. The draft list will be rounded out with 19 other kickass beers including Russian River Pliny the Elder, Blind Pig, and STS Pils; Allagash White; Monk’s CafĂ© Flemish Sour Ale; Boon Gueuze; Corsendonk Christmas, Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux, and rarities from world class breweries around the world! Surprises may be in store.
Join us from 11:30am on Monday, March 9 and anytime throughout our service until 2am to share in our special day. Deepest thanks to each and every one of our guests, vendors, breweries and coworkers of the last 23 years – we love you so much and would not be here without you.
Monk’s 23rd Anniversary Draft List featuring Hill Farmstead
(in progress – stay tuned on social media for updates)
Hill Farmstead Edward (VT) Edward (1917-2002) is our grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his five children. In his honor, this American Pale Ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Edward’s well. It is unfiltered and dry hopped. Hopped with Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, Warrior; aged in stainless steel. Part of the Ancestral Series. 5.2%abv
Hill Farmstead Everett (VT) Everett (1908-1939) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this American porter is crafted from American malted barley, English and German roasted malts, American hops, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated, aged in stainless steel. Decadent in its depth, with a complex backbone of chocolate, coffee, and malty sweetness, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Everett. Part of the Ancestral Series. 7.2%abv
Hill Farmstead Brother Soigné (VT) A tart, refreshing saison-style beer originally brewed with our dear friend Luc Bim Lafontaine, formerly of Dieu du Ciel! Lime, hibiscus and blood orange in a mix fermentation. Foudre aged; part of the Grassroots Brewing Series. 5%abv
Hill Farmstead Biere de Mars (VT) An amber Farmstead ale brewed in celebration of spring, foudre aged. Part of the Singular Series. 6.5%abv

Boon Geuze Selection (Belgium) Lambic from specific foeders are selected to best produce a “keg conditioned” geuze. Full bodied with signature sourness and low carbonation. 6.3%abv
Corsendonk Christmas Ale (Belgium) Malt & spice dominate the nose. Spices are well integrated into the beer – this is NOT one of those “pumpkin pie in a glass” beer. This is really, really tasty. A bit of ‘root beer’, coffee & chocolate in the finish. Medium body. Deep amber color. A staff favorite. 8.1%abv
Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux (Belgium) It’s baaaaaack! A “super saison” and arguably the best Holiday Ale made in Belgium. A bit of citrus in the finish. Lots of dried fruit in the taste. Medium to full body. Hops in the taste & finish. Dry finish. 9.5%abv
Russian River Blind Pig (CA) Perhaps my favorite West Coast IPA. Solid hop aromas and finish backed up by the perfect balance of malt. 6.1%abv
Russian River Pliny the Elder (CA) This is the original Double IPA, made by mistake, natch. More hops balanced by bigger malt. Aromas of grapefruit dominate. Finishes surprisingly dry, yet not too bitter. 8%abv
Russian River STS Pils (CA) A classic European style Pilsner. Straw in color and often times slightly hazy as it is unfiltered. Hop forward with a mild malt foundation, strong lager yeast characteristic, and a dry, bitter finish. Damn! This is a World-Class Pilsner. Perfectly balanced and oh, so quaffable. Seriously- try this. 5.35%abv
Westmalle Dubbel (Belgium) Monk’s Café is honored to be one of a few beer bars to debut this legendary Trappist beer on draft in Pennsylvania. A dark red-brown beer with notes of caramel, malt and fruity esters followed by a long, dry finish. Rich and complex. We are so excited to pour this gem! 7%abv
