“Early Bird starts as a classic milk stout,” says Mark Theisen, Lead Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “We originally brewed this for a beer and donut event, so we wanted to have fun by adding coffee as an ode to it being a breakfast beer.” Coronado approached its neighbors down the street, award-winning Bird Rock Coffee & Roasters. After several cuppings, the team decided on a robust French Roast, and the final beer uses more than one pound of coffee per barrel of beer. “You can really taste the coffee in Early Bird. It adds a lot of complexity and pairs really well with the chocolate and complex maltiness,” says Theisen. 5.5% ABV.
